I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother moved into Paramount Senior Living at Fredericksburg. I've been very pleased, the staff has been very kind, they work with me very well, and they reach out whenever my mom needs to make a phone call. It's a little expensive, but it's really good. When we visited it looked like a very beautiful place. It's set up very much like apartments. You can have your own apartment, or an apartment where there's a shared living room, dining room, kitchenette, and bathroom, but you get your own bedroom. Residents are allowed to bring in their own furniture, you can hang your own drapes, have pictures on the wall, and you can have your own TV. They have a beautiful dining area, an outside patio area in the back that people can use, and the front has beautiful rocking chairs so the assisted living people can go outside, sit, and enjoy the weather. They have washing machine areas, a nice sized library, a nice sized TV room, and they have RNs and doctors onsite.

My mother-in-law has moved into Paramount Senior Living. So far, we have been pretty pleased with most everything. She is still going through an adjustment period and is learning how they work. The staff members are very friendly. It's the only place that I have ever been in where everyone greets you with a hug. It is wonderful, and it is very clean. It is nothing fancy but it has what it needs. They keep the residents busy all day long. There's movie night and Wednesday Tea for Ladies. There is something going on almost every hour.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother was in Bickford of Spotsylvania for 6-8 months. Sadly, she got bedbugs in her room, and they wanted me to pick her up. They had her sleeping on the couch for three days, and I had to buy all brand-new furniture. They had memory care within its assisted living facility. The place was decorated nicely, both facilities were secured, and all doors were locked. They had a kitchen and the assisted living had cafeteria style dining. They had good and bad staff. There's staff who seemed to really care. The food looked and smelled really good. The cost was pretty high.

Spring Arbor of Fredericksburg has so far been fantastic. They each have their own apartment, and my sister is doing fine in hers. They've been very helpful in having to transfer her from there to the hospital a couple of times, and my sister calls it her home. They have all kinds of activities, like people who come in to play for them and speak to them. The staff is outstanding. What my sister is getting is well worth the money.

I visited this facility

Chancellor’s Village was good and very clean, and the staff was very nice. They had a nice dining room and some clubs. The food was good.

I visited this facility

It is more like a nursing home type facility rather than an assisted living facility. I could tell that a lot of the residents require lots of care. They didn't spend as much time with me as at other places. The staff members were OK; however, we really didn't go into a lot about the menus or the activities there. The dining room is in the center. The rooms are shared rooms. You can get a private room, but at best, it looks like a nursing home room where you can only fit a bed, a chair, and a TV on the wall.

I visited this facility

Chancellor's Village was very upscale and nice, but they didn't have a 2-bedroom, 2-bath apartment. The staff was very nice and accommodating, and they gave us all time with the tour.

It has an actual nurse on duty at all times in the memory care unit. My dad stayed there for six months. The place was excellent and the nurses were excellent. They just didn't fix the shower and it needed fixing. My dad was in a studio, but they also have shared rooms. They have activities and a lovely garden. The activities were excellent, but some of the activities were more than some of the residents could handle. Some of the residents enjoy them though. One time this man came in and sang all these old songs for them and the residents loved it.

My mother-in-law stayed at Spring Arbor of Fredericksburg for two weeks. The staff was wonderful and I couldn't say enough nice things about them. My major complaint was the minute she was unable to get up and stand on her own and pivot, they made her leave within the day without notice. She had to be out, and I had to find a new place very quickly. Her apartment was excellent. She had a studio, but it was more than ample sized, and she had her own bathroom. The place was absolutely beautiful. While she was there, it was five stars. I would drop it down to one star for the way she was treated at the very end. The food was pretty reasonable. My only complaint about the whole thing is that they gave us no heads up before we moved her in that she would be expected to leave if she couldn't stand up. They gave us no warning, she had to be out immediately.

Information About Assisted Living Facilities in Fredericksburg

Built astride the Rappahannock River and 49 miles south of Washington, DC, the city of Fredericksburg is known as “America’s Most Historic City”. During the Civil War, because it was positioned halfway between the capitals of both the Union and Confederat e forces, Fredericksburg was the unlucky theatre for two pitched battles fought over the territory. Fredericksburg was also the former stomping grounds of George Washington, whose family lived on Ferry Farm , just across the river from Fredericksburg. The cozy population of 28,000 feels just right for many seniors considering Fredericksburg assisted living communities.

Organizations Serving Seniors in Fredericksburg

Not nearly as impersonal as the big cities, assisted living in Fredericksburg offers a break from all the running around and a return to hospitality practiced by the locals here. The Fredericksburg Senior Center is a program operated by the Fredericksburg Senior Citizens Association which organizes various trips and activities out of its Canal and Charles Street location. Dinner shows, overnight trips and cruises are just some of the occasions offered over the course of each year, and the center also offers Canasta and Bingo on a weekly basis. A monthly luncheon is always a good excuse for members to bring dishes to share, socialize, and mingle or demonstrate their cooking chops among their coevals. Getting around is made easy by the Elderly and Disabled Transportation Fund of Virginia. They provide transportation solutions for older or disabled Virginians who can’t or choose not to drive, or are otherwise unable to take advantage of public options. This fund provides for transportation to and from medical care appointments, grocery stores or any other day trips a resident of Fredericksburg assisted living could require.
