I visited this facility

Genesis Village is not as clean and as nice, and they will not leave me alone. The pool is nice, but no one is ever in it. The residents seemed to really like the place. The rooms were very small and you have to bring your own furniture.

I liked Genesis Village and its people. It had a nice setup and it was very good. Someone sits at the desk waiting for you to come in, and I like the rooms better there. I got to meet the owner who was very nice. The person who showed me around was very helpful and answered questions I didn’t know I had. They had a lot of different activities, like card games and a pool table. I was really impressed with all of it.

I am/was a resident of this facility

Genesis Village is very nice. There are plenty of things to do and things to keep you busy. They have exercises during the day, movies, entertainment, and Bible studies. They have plenty of different activities. There is also laundry at the end of the hallway that is available to you. You can go down and sign up to do your own laundry. The meals are pretty good; they serve three a day.

I visited this facility

Genesis Village had a pool, a fitness center, and they also had in-house healthcare. I saw a 1-bedroom unit and it was awesome. They provided us with lunch, and it was very well cooked, very tasty, and the portions were great.

Senior Star was nice. The interior was nice and clean. The people were friendly. They had an exercise room. They also had a computer area where you could work on memory loss issues. They took them on field trips to parks. The staff that took us through the tour was very nice and very knowledgeable.

Financial Assistance for Assisted Living in Toledo

Medicaid in Ohio

Medicaid is the government-funded nationwide health protection program that provides emergency, acute and long-term health care to low-income Americans who would otherwise be unable to afford health insurance. Funding comes from both the state and federal governments, and each state administers its own Medicaid program in accordance with guidelines established by the federal government.  In Ohio, a Medicaid expansion state, approximately 22% of residents are covered under Medicaid, and 74% of seniors and people with disabilities meet the financial criteria for free Medicaid enrollment.  To qualify for no-cost Medicaid in Ohio, seniors 65 and older can earn up to $2,313 per month ($4,626 for a couple), which is three times the current Social Security Federal Payment Standard. Income from wages, pensions, alimony and small business revenues are considered, as is any money seniors make from investments such as stocks or bonds.  Medicaid applicants must also own no more than $2,000 worth of countable assets ($3,000 per couple), which includes all cash on hand, bank account balances and real estate. Some items are considered exempt, including a home that is the principal residence of the applicant(s) and worth no more than $585,000, one vehicle, clothing, jewelry and household goods.  MyCare Ohio Lucas County is one of 29 counties in Ohio that participates in the MyCare Ohio plan, a free, comprehensive managed-care program for seniors who are either eligible for, or covered by, both Medicaid and Medicare.  Using a team-based approach, the MCOP provides seniors with access to all of the benefits of both Medicaid and Medicare, including long-term care services such as assisted living. Seniors may also receive personal care services, transportation assistance, home meal delivery, durable medical equipment and other help deemed to be medically necessary.  The goal of the MCOP is to help seniors live safely in the least intrusive setting while avoiding or delaying nursing home placement. Enrollment in the MCOP is mandatory for dual-eligible residents of Lucas County, and unlike Medicaid waivers, there are no waiting lists or enrollment caps on the MCOP.  For more information on Ohio Medicaid and the MCOP, contact the Ohio Medicaid Consumer Hotline at (800) 324-8680.

Other Financial Assistance Programs for Assisted Living

Residential State Supplement Program  Ohio seniors who are are Medicaid-eligible and receive Social Security, Supplemental Security Income or Supplemental Security Disability Insurance benefits and who need to reside in an approved assisted living facility may qualify for the Residential State Supplement.  Also known as Optional State Supplementation, RSS is administered through the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services, Community Transitions programs. RSS provides financial assistance to Ohio residents with a disability, including age-related deterioration, to help pay for room and board, personal care services or supervision in a community-based residential facility such as assisted living.  The maximum monthly fee that assisted living operators can charge an RSS-enrolled resident is $1,100, and enrollees should have at least $200 available each month from their combined federal/state benefits for personal needs allowance.  For more information on the RSS, contact the Lucas County Department of Job and Family Services at (419) 213-8800.
