I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

Cascades of the Sierra was excellent except for the cost. They were really expensive, but it's a good value because they had wonderful homes, a gym, food, and staff. My friend's apartment was nice. It was a one-bedroom plus a huge living room, a nice big bathroom, a big closet, a lot of storage space, a fridge, a microwave, a nice sink, and a nice view. They had a lot going on, a gym, two different cafeterias, seating areas, art rooms, they watch movies daily, there's bingo, and games. It's awesome. It's the type of place that I would like to be at. It's independent living with a 24-hour staff.

My mom is at MorningStar Senior Living of Sparks in their assisted living wing. They have independent living, assisted living, and memory care. It is a really nice community. I like the looks of it. It is comfortable for my mom. The staff members are very nice. Things have been going well with my mom there. She is liking it, too. My mom doesn't participate in many of their activites. She is just more social with the people that are there and with the staff too. They will take you places, and there are different activities to do at different times of the week within the house. My mom has a small apartment. You walk into a small kitchenette with a refrigerator, a microwave, a kitchen sink, and a few cabinets. There's a small living room and then you go through a door into a bedroom with a large bathroom. The bathroom has handicapped access, and it has a shower stall. I like this apartment better than a lot of other places that are just studios. It is larger and it has more of a homey feel. They have a wonderful staff, too. It couldn't be better.

Brookdale Vista is very clean, warm and inviting. The staff is very helpful, they walk you through the onboarding process really well. They're very empathetic and really look at the residents as patients instead of just revenue. They have an activities board for the month with activities that the folks do, like doing a little workout on their wheelchairs. They also do trivia to keep their minds active and they go out on field trips. My mom really likes the food, it's surprisingly good.

MorningStar of Sparks seems to be more corporate and more modern compared to the community where my mom is currently in. It's like a hotel as opposed to something that's more homey. Their staff is good. The person who assisted me was a bit too young to be in the position, since the clients are elderly. She also seemed more corporate and more of a sales person. They had quite a few amenities, the building has 3 stories so there's a lot going on. They have a place to watch movies, a game room, and they have a happy hour. But since it's 3 stories, it's harder for people to go around and they have to use the elevator.

MorningStar of Sparks is a very nice place and my husband is getting really good care, but it is expensive. The dining area is very nice and the food is good. There are lots of activities, like root beer float days, bean bag competitions, they take them out to lunch once a month, take them to the doctor and grocery stores, and they have movies almost every night. My husband is doing well and they seem to be able to solve problems that I can't handle at home.

My parents have lived at Brookdale Sparks before. We really liked it and that's why we went back. The food is great. The dining area looks like a restaurant. It's really nice and easy for the residents. They allow family members to come and have dinner with their people. It's like eating out at a restaurant, but they're still at home. They like to play bingo, and once in a while they have little live bands that residents can go and listen to. Sometimes they have storytelling for the residents. They have an exercise room, a salon, and things like that. The staff is awesome and they became friendly with my parents. The only problem is their cost of living has gone up considerably.

My mother has been a resident of Brookdale Sparks for a week now. She is adjusting, but so far, everything is great. They do a lot of activities, and she is enjoying all of them. There are exercises, games, bingo, and cards. They go out to the store and out to eat. Two days a week, they will take them to the doctors and shopping. They went out to see the wild horses last weekend. The staff members have been very nice. They do her sheets and towels. They would do more, but my mother is fine doing them by herself. They serve three meals a day. My mother eats two of those because she has her own breakfast.

The atmosphere in Brookdale Sparks is good, and the place looks clean. The staff is a little rough during the bath and sometimes a bit grumpy, but overall they're fine and friendly. My parents think the food is average. My dad doesn't like the fact that they're offering cold things in the morning. Their room is small right now, but there are also bigger and better rooms. They have a library, a salon, and an activity room. I like the community all in all.

Brookdale was a lot smaller than the other places. It was nice and well maintained, and the staff was very friendly. They had lots of activities and a nice craft room. The rooms were nice but a bit small.
