I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My father-in-law is now in Lake Shore Commons. He has one of those ride-on scooters, and he loves getting around on that, and I like that he has plenty of room to move around. The price is really good and they're really friendly. They were able to help us get his payments to where they needed to be so he could be comfortable living there. He says that the food could be better but it is what it is. They have activities and he doesn't have to drive himself anywhere; and we like that it's convenient for us to get to him. Also, we like that people go in they screen for COVID symptoms. He seems to be making friends very quickly, his room is a nice size, and there's plenty of room for himself; it's a studio apartment. They have a billiard room, a hair salon, they have a chapel, he loves doing bible study, they have happy hour on Fridays, and they have trivia and games they play, which he really likes. He has cable TV that came with his room. He's got this life-guard system that he wears around his neck, and if he needs anything he can press the button and talk to them with what he needs, or if he's in trouble and needs help. The food is not as good as it should be.

Lake Shore Commons was very attractive and looked to be one of the considerations we would want for a complex of that kind. We had a wonderful meeting with one of the staff who was very good, and she called us back because we wanted to go back to look at the other facilities in the building. She showed us a two-bedroom cottage that was very attractive.

I visited this facility

I toured Lake Shore Commons. I thought the staff was pleasant, but as soon as I stepped into the place, I was overwhelmed with how old the people were over there. We had a nice lunch, but the place was too old for us now. The staff was friendly, pleasant, and upbeat. It looked like it was well-taken care of. There were things that did not add to my expectations, like how everything in the kitchen was downsized, and the laundry room was little with tiny appliances.

Cambridge Village of Wilmington was very nice, clean, and maintained very well. The staff was very nice and cordial. I would recommend them because it was well kept up and the people were really nice.

Lake Shore Commons was very nice, and the staff was very nice, but it was too old for us. The food was very good, and they said they just got a new chef. The apartments were very nice from the models we saw, but it was way out of our range. It was very good for the people living there.

Lake Shore Commons was very nice. The lady there was nice, informative, and we liked talking to her. Everything was good. The rooms were fine. They offer entertainment and there's stuff to keep them busy.

Lake Shore Commons is very nice and very clean. The people are nice and knowledgeable. They're very friendly and seem genuinely interested in the people that live there. They have a library. The dining room is beautiful. They have activities during the day. The residents can have their own car, so if they want to leave and go somewhere, they can.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother was at Lake Shore Commons. It was OK, but they only had one elevator for 160 elderly people with their walkers and wheelchairs trying to get on one little elevator all at the same time. It gets pretty backed up. The people there were very nice, very accommodating, and very kind, but if you need any level of care above independent, it is not the place for you. Even though they say that you can get assistance in your apartment, it's not as easy as it sounds. It's also very expensive. They promote themselves as being a less expensive option, but in reality, they are not because you pay your rent and then you have to pay for assistance on top of it; it ends up being more money than being in an assisted living facility. They had a full calendar every day of different activities, like outings, bingo, cards, music, and a beauty shop.

Lake Shore Commons is a wonderful and great facility. The apartments are wonderful, the staff is excellent, and the dining room was excellent, like a 5-star restaurant. They have a different menu every day, and the residents get to pick from three different main course choices. It was our first choice. They have an excellent program for the residents. They have a coffee bar and a snack bar open 24 hours. It was a very positive experience.
