I am/was a resident of this facility

I have been a resident of Belleair Towers for 2 weeks now. The community is fine. It's quiet and its clean. It's a 1-bedroom apartment and it's a nice size. They also have studio and 2-room units. The staff was fine and they clean the rooms once a week. I had just gotten out of the hospital, so I'm not familiar with the amenities and activities yet. They set appointments and they have some concerts available. They provide 3 meals a day. You either have it delivered to your room or have it at the dining area.

I am/was a resident of this facility

I can't say enough good things about Belleair Towers. We moved here about 3 years ago from North Redington Beach, FL. I'm 86 and my husband is 90. This place is headed by two wonderful managers. They think about everything and they plan about everything. There's very little adapting we had to do and we're babied here. They're very accommodating. We have 2 bedrooms, a storage, laundry, parking, a nice swimming pool, and 3 meals a day. I'm just overflowing with gratitude for being here, especially with this pandemic, it reduces our dangers or possibilities of getting Covid. They also insist on wearing mask everywhere here. As a nurse practitioner for 40 years, I agree completely. The food is nice, the apartments are nice, they get cleaned every week, and everybody is friendly. I developed a 2-page criteria that had to be met, and they met all of them. It's a small community of about 70 people and we all help each other. The attitude and the community's spirit here is amazing! I'm just so pleased to be so safe. They have a plethora of very well-managed community activities, like movies all the time, a walking club, Bocce ball, brain games, a library, and you could be kept busy every minute. It's very homey and we are all friends and we can talk about most things with anybody. My husband is just ecstatic that we have found this place. This is the largest on floor space of any places that we looked at and more accommodating in cost. We feel like we found a little piece of heaven for ourselves. We planned to stay here till they drive us out. They bring up 3 hot meals a day, as you wish, snacks in between, so that's 5 trips up to each room every day. They're very accommodating and just wonderful people. The chef have a good handle on nutrition, so the food is of high quality, and everybody seems to be satisfied with it. There's a variety of breakfast every day the food is marvelous. There are two choices for lunch and supper every day, from soups to desserts including ice cream. Management communicate with us on paper every day, as to what's coming up, what we're doing and so forth. I'm bursting with gratitude to this place. We found our home here! If people are looking for a homey home, who's so caring, this is it. I'd like people to know that such a good place does exist, and their hearts are in it. I don't think we pay more here than we did in our home. I've never been so happily ensconced. I am just overwhelmed with the idea that there were people out there struggling to find a place.

My wife and I are currently at Belleair Towers. The service is adequate for now. They kinda cut back on activities now due to Coronavirus. They're not encouraging group activities but they keep the residents busy. They have a library, a pool, and an exercise area. They don't encourage you to the dining area right now. Most of the meals are delivered to your room, and the food is good. Our room is spacious, clean, and nice. They have housekeeping.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

Palm Garden of Clearwater is a very nice place. Everything is very well and seems to be topnotch. I'm not allowed to go in and participate and see what mom's doing, but basically she is in a wheelchair and bedridden. She's non-weight bearing, and they wheel her around to different areas where she can go to the cafeteria and communicate with other people. She doesn't participate in any sort of activities really that I'm aware of. This place was a recommendation of a surgeon in the hospital she went to for her surgery. It was right down the road and they recommended it. My mother seems to enjoy the food. She eats very well, and based on talking to her, she seems to be very pleased with it. The staff members seem to be very good.

I visited this facility

I toured Belleair Towers. As a visitor I very much appreciated that they were allowing actual visits in the current environment so that I could at least see the physical space as opposed to just a virtual tour. They were running screenings, they checked my temperature, I had to fill out a form on my condition, and obviously they kept me away from the residents. All of that makes perfect sense, so I was very happy with all of that. I met with John, who was the manager on site. The room that I saw was a two-bedroom and I believe it was in the North tower. I thought it was a nice size, there was room for what I was looking for, and that all looked very good. The bedrooms were a little small, but it had a big living/dining area which I think was more useful than a big bedroom. The amenities were presented, the activities were discussed, and obviously the activities were limited in the current environment.

I visited this facility

We went to Belleair Towers and we were accommodated and shown everything and they answered all our questions. Their independent living was rather small. I personally would rather have more people to be acquainted with and there were only 50 of them in the independent living, but it was a very nice facility and we enjoyed the visit. They had the pool, exercise room, activities, and transportation service.

I visited this facility

We went to Belleair Towers. The rooms were very nice, but the food was terrible. I wasn't that impressed with the food staff at all. The laundry room is at the end of the hall. There were exposed pipes that had been worked on. It looked like they had been recently bought by another company. They have new carpeting, which is very nice. The rooms were very nice; I liked them. The location is out of the way, but it is very nice and is a park-like area. It is not a large community, but they seem to have adequate activities for those who are interested in what's going on. They have a nice pool and a hot tub outside. We saw several of the activity rooms around as well. The lady that met us was fine, but I got the impression that it was more of a sales thing, as opposed to introducing you to residents and helping you find a place.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

It is a beautiful, clean place, and I'm really happy that my friend is there. People are very nice and communicate with each other. The residents all look very happy there, so I'm very pleased. I like the sizes of the rooms. If I would have to go in there, I would personally pick the one with the extra bedroom, living room, and kitchen, but the room my friend picked is pretty decent. They have a lot of games, get-togethers, and a Christmas party tomorrow. They have lots of activities and take them out to doctor's appointments and to Walmart. They do a lot for the residents. They invited us for a meal, but I already had lunch when we went. The people are very friendly and very nice.

Atria Countryside was very good and clean and had a good layout and good people. The people who helped me were wonderful, and the dining area and rooms were good. The interior looked like an apartment complex.

Financial Assistance for Assisted Living in Clearwater

Medicaid in Florida

Medicaid is a nationwide health insurance program designed to provide low-income, low-asset Americans with access to basic health services. It is jointly funded by the federal and state governments, and in Florida, Medicaid is administered by the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration

Seniors in Florida may be eligible for Medicaid coverage if they have a monthly income of $2,313 or less when applying as a single or $4,626 in joint income when applying with a spouse. Medicaid considers income from all sources including pensions, annuities, alimony and wages.

Asset limits also apply for Medicaid applicants. Individuals may own no more than $2,000 in countable assets, and couples can jointly own no more than $3,000 in countable assets including cash, checking account balances, stocks and investment real estate.

Under Medicaid rules, personal belongings, household effects, one vehicle and a primary residence valued at $585,000 or less are rated as exempt assets.

Seniors aged 65 and older who qualify for Florida Medicaid and require care normally found in a nursing home may be eligible for personal care services while residing in the community or in an assisted living facility. The Florida Statewide Medicaid Managed Care Long Term Care Program (SMMC LTC) is designed to reduce the rates of nursing home placement in the state by providing financial assistance to seniors for use towards a homemaker, home health care aide or other supports.

To learn more about Medicaid and the SMMC LTC program, call the Agency for Health Care Administration at (877) 711-3662 or the Florida Elder Helpline at (800) 963-5337.
