What Training is Required for Community Residential Care Facility Staff?
All community residential care staff must complete in-service training, including basic first aid, procedures for checking vital signs, communicable diseases, medication management, care for physical and mental conditions, use of restraints, OSHA standard regarding bloodborne pathogens, CPR, confidentiality, and fire response and emergency procedures.
Additional training for all staff, direct care, and volunteers working with Alzheimer’s and other cognitively impaired residents, as well as ongoing in-service training annually. Training should be specific to the needs of the residents, including, communication, understanding and coping with behaviors, and resident safety.
Is an Assessment Required Before Move-In?
A resident assessment is required to determine the nature and extent of care needed by the potential resident.
